... but in a small way.
Perhaps they grouted today?
As of 3pm they were backfilling with some rock.

Lucky Friday the 13th
Cold but dry weather and the bridge structure gets completed!
Now we need continued dry weather so they can grout the structure. The fill it in with gravel/rock/dirt.

Progress!
They were back on site this morning and it appears they got another 3 sections added.
Looks like they are about half through.
What a difference a sunny day makes !
They had installed 8 more sections by this afternoon!

Workmen on site!
Much to my suprise ... there was a half dozen or so workmen on the site at 7am this morning.
Were they collecting equipment to move it somewhere else or are they prepping for more bridge work? I'll go by again after a bit and see. Hope to report back by noon.

Update
Nope. They were loading up an excavator to leave when I came by at 10am.

Nope. They were loading up an excavator to leave when I came by at 10am.
As near as I can tell, they were just here to dig a hole in the dam to let more water flow past. *sigh* Another step backwards.
On the sunny side of the street! |
As I understand it, this breach will need to be filled back in and all the water pumped back out before work can resume. The pump has not been deployed and is still hanging from the crane.

Rain rain go away
Well, if there was any good news for this project it is that the rainfall totals have been light -
Saturday 24 hour rainfall - 0"
Sunday 24 hour rainfall -1.13"
Monday 24 hour rainfall - .10"
So although there is no work at the site, the creek has not risen and caused havoc. When they do get to resume work they will hopefully have to do very little site prep first (due to rain).

No work today.
Steady but light rain for most of the day. Total by the end of the day - 0.95 inches.

... and then ...
Well, with rain in the forcast, the crew packed up there stuff early this morning - and left.
UPDATE: No measurable amount of rain at the work site until 6pm when we recorded .01 inches.
I fear that this will be the end of work for this week.

Progress Continues!
Moving right along.
I found out how they attach the bridge sections to the peer. They don't!
The 54 thousand pound pieces are simple set in place and their weight does the rest. They will apparently add some concrete around them just to make sure though.
Each of the concrete arches have a steel rod that connects their sides. I suspect these will be removed when all sections are in place.

Brute force and delicate allignment!.
Update: as of 5:10pm there were still work crews on site. Way too dark for them to set anymore sections though.
++++++++++++ I was told these sections weigh 54 THOUSAND pounds!
After they carefully get the section secured to the crane, they lift it up just enough to drive the truck out from under it.
Then they attach an additional set of cables to the section to help to position it.
Now they have to get it positioned in the exact . right . spot !
I am not sure how the sections are attached to the peers but I'd love to know.
